NEWFOUNDLAND DELIVERS ANOTHER BLOW TO VAPERS WITH A MASSIVE TAX INCREASE
Toronto, Ontario – December 15, 2020 – Vapers of Newfoundland and Labrador will start the New Year with a 20 percent increase in their vapour products thanks to a massive tax increase approved by the provincial government today.
“How is this supposed to help vapers stick to vaping? How is this supposed to help smokers quit smoking? It is infuriating that governments continue to put up barriers against the best hope for a smoke-free Canada,” said Maria Papaioannoy, spokersperson for Rights4Vapers, the country’s largest consumer vapers rights organization. “Vaping is less harmful than smoking. There is no debate. Vapour products should be priced to encourage smokers to move to vaping.”
The 20 percent increase on all vapour products will result in the average bottle of eliquid costing about $35. Compare this to a pack of cigarettes that costs about $15.
“Eliquid will be more than double to price of a pack of cigarettes in 2021. Which option do you think smokers will choose?” said Ms. Papaioannoy. “The government is sentencing smokers in Newfoundland to a lifetime of cigarette use and health problems. It is criminal.”
